  • Shelby Knox
  • Emily Lyons
  • Jimmy Carter
  • Liberal Mothers who stay home with their kids
  • Thomas Beatie
  • Rosa Parks
  • Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Helen Thomas
  • Angelina Jolie--really (She doesn't take shit from anyone; she does what she wants and doesn't care what others think; she uses her celebrity to actually do good things in the world; she has adopted children and seems to be a good mother.)
  • Obama
  • people who are open and truthful about their lives
  • George Tiller, M.D.
  • 5/08/08 ADDITION: Keith Olbermann (As BFF Vicki states it: I love that man. He pulls no punches. I truly think he's our generation's Edward R. Murrow. I love anyone with the balls to speak truth to power, but few are as impeccably groomed as he while speaking it.)

If I think of any others, I'll let ya know.

Who are your heroes?

Margaret Fuller, without a doubt. We made Fuller our daughters middle name.

Buckminster Fuller. Keep it in the family, y'know.

Huey Newton.

Thomas Paine.

Any guy or girl that was unfortunate enough to be drafted by the military and served the sentence.

Galileo Galilei

Socrates

Joan of Arc

George Patton

Nefertiti

Sadly, for a feminist, I know little of Margaret Fuller other than the basics--I'll have to look her up.
Joan of Arc--she fluctuates between hero and"may have been crazy" in my mind, lol. Galileo Galilei I understand, but my heroes tend to be more modern and more "quiet heroes," even if very famous.
At the anniversary of the March on Washington I got a picture of Ms. Parks and shook her hand and that was a thrill for me. As was listening to the recording of the "I have a dream" echoing over the Mall in DC. Goosebump time.

Hrm. Haven't really thought about this much.

First, I would say all mothers, liberal or no, doing what they have to do to give their children the best possible lives they could hope for. Whether that's by staying home, working 1 or more jobs to make ends meet, or making an adoption plan for their children so someone else can give them the lives they deserve.

I would agree on Aneglina--from what I understand/have heard, she went through the same process for all her adoptions as any adoptive parent would, unlike some leathery, wrinkled, gap-toothed bitches who think they can circumvent a country's adoption regulations through bribery.

I would also say Keith Olbermann. I love that man. He pulls no punches. I truly think he's our generation's Edward R. Murrow. I love anyone with the balls to speak truth to power, but few are as impeccably groomed as he while speaking it. Did you see his tie last night? It looked like a candy cane. I wanted to lick it. Enough of my sick KO fantasies...

I can't say Obama until I see what he does in office. I'm waiting with baited breath. He certainly has the potential to be my no. 1 hero, however, so long as he delivers. I'm trusting he will.

I agree with your mother paragraph, but I esp. love liberal, feminist moms who "choose" to stay home because the feminist movement is still very resistant to SAHMs making it doubly or triply difficult depending on your sitch--for example Nate & I were below poverty line when we first had Holden; WIC, Medical Assistance, the whole thing. Of course without him, I would have had to work one or two or three jobs,so I agree with what you said. But right wing Xian moms have all the support in the world support in the world most of the time.
"[S]ome leathery, wrinkled, gap-toothed bitches who think they can circumvent a country's adoption regulations through bribery"--hmmmm, who can you possibly mean, LOL. I can't believe how much I used to love her compared to my feelings for her now.
KO--agreed; in fact, I'm editing so he goes on the list.
And I also agree on your take on Obama, but for now he has changed how the game works and that takes huge amounts of "testicular fortitude" and he is no "pansy" to steal from the smunt's retarded supporters.
